The young man and two old men. Pop Art parody of Tintoretto's painting. 1980s. Marco Silombria, Italian advertising graphic designer, artist and ceramicist. Pencils and waxes on paper. Signed at lower left: Silombria. With archival stamp , numbered No. 77, Dated 1-1983. From the series "D'apres: Silombria creates a series of parodies to paintings from the late Renaissance to the 19th century that were "scandalous" in their time for depicting nudity explicitly. Reusing iconic images, well known to a wide audience, artist uses irony, as is typical for many Pop Art artists. Silombria resorts to the image of a classical ideal of the male body, strong and muscular. In our painting, Silombria reinterprets Tintoretto's painting "Susanna and Vecchioni," depicting the toielette of a young man, whom the two old men lasciviously observe. Notes about Artist: A pupil of Emilio Scanavino, Silombria was one of Italy's most innovative publicists. He has worked for Fiat, Sai and Riso Gallo for which he designed the historic brand. Acclaimed and respected painter and advertising graphic designer, established in Turin since the late 1960s. Having arrived in Turin in the 1950s, after taking his first steps with famous artists such as Emilio Scavanino and Lucio Fontana, in that temple of ceramic art that is Albisola, Silombria had completed a long apprenticeship at the Sanguineti advertising agency, getting noticed by Armando Testa. He was later one of the founders of the CGSS agency along with other prominent publicists such as Silvio Saffirio, Gagliardi and Giorgio Caponetti. He signed several successful advertising campaigns: from the one for Gallo rice to the Fiat 127, to posters for the Textile Financial Group. homoerotic, between the new Dadaism and pop art, between Matisse and Piero Manzoni, always in the vein of "joie de vivre" and through reinterpretations of the Dionysian and Olympian themes of classical art
