Signed lower right, in graphite, 'Sue Gertz' for Suzanne Gertz (American, 1938-2003) and painted circa 1975. Suzanne Gertz first studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and, subsequently, at Barat College. Initially influenced by Jackson Pollock and Hans Hoffman, she gradually evolved a looser, Post-Impressionist figural style that often incorporated gauze and other textiles together with corrugated metal elements. Gertz exhibited widely and with success at numerous galleries in Chicago as well as at juried exhibitions nationwide, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Spertus Museum, the Chicago Botanical Garden, and at California's San Bernardino County Museum, among others.
