Oil on canvas by Yves DIEY (1892-1984), France. The Nude. With frame : 99x54 cm - 39x21.25 inches ; without frame : 90x45 cm - 35.4x17.7 inches. Signed "Yves Dieÿ" lower right (see photo).
BIOGRAPHY
Yves Dieÿ was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he entered the studio of Raphaël Collin (1850-1916) and received the influences of masters such as Tony Robert-Fleury (1797-1890) and Adolphe Déchenaud ( 1868-1926). Considering his age, he was mainly influenced by two of his masters: Hans Berger (1882-1977), painter of Swiss origin and Louis-François Biloul (1874-1947).
Member of the Salon des Artistes Français, he painted nudes and "elegant necklines" that the postcard popularized, portraits and still lifes. The subjects that constitute his work are animated scenes from Paris - which, like Eugène Galien-Laloue, he restores in the "age of horse-drawn omnibuses" -, the Île de Ré, Spain, from Morocco and Algeria. In addition to these themes, his traveller's temperament is expressed by the presence of his works in Canadian private collections.
Yves Dieÿ is medalist and awarded at the Salon des Artistes Français. He will also be a member of other painting associations, such as the Winter Salon, the fine arts of Nice, the orientalists of Algiers and Samothrace.
In 1940, Yves Dieÿ was animator of the Petit Salon de Montparnasse - an association of professional painters - in a workshop located at 150, boulevard du Montparnasse.
He worked and exhibited in Belgium in the 1950s and 1960s, notably with “Les arts en Europe”.
Yves Dieÿ is above all a portrait painter. He has a special gift for bringing out the soul of the models and giving an exceptional expression to the eyes and lips [ref. necessary]. He is mainly inspired by women and shows a predilection for sensual nudes, seductive female figures.
Beyond the nudes, he paints or draws scenes from Parisian life, but also many Andalusians as well as market shows when he travels to Spain, Morocco or Algeria.
The funds of his studio were sold in Paris to the Hôtel Drouot on October 4, 1976.

This vintage painting is now in very good condition. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display. The painting is signed lower left. A later dedication to “Louise” dated April 1942 in the artist’s hand is set around the earlier signing. Raymond Moritz was a French impressionist artist and illustrator. He was born in Paris on 8 July 1891. His family came from the Alsace region and were poor and Catholic. On his mother’s side, the Staubs were from Wihr-au-Val where they had been coopers for several generations. His uncle, Marie Clement Staub, was the founder in Canada of the Sisters of Saint Joan of Arc. Moritz fought during the Great War in the Picardy region of the Somme with the 2nd machine gunner company. He won the French 1914-1918 War medal with bronze palm attachment, which signifies that the awardee was mentioned in dispatches at army level. Moritz obviously created some art during the war because during the inauguration of the new town hall in the town of Albert he was congratulated by the French President, Albert Lebrun, and the British press for the paintings he had produced.
