Patrick Dintino
Crusade - red warm toned grey color stripe abstract contemporary oil painting

2015

About the Item

In this abstract oil painting, Dintino brings about images of bloody battles, or crusades. The red is angry and at some points dark, though he juxtaposes that with a bright and influential light. This light is quite god-like, which makes sense when put in the context of the Crusades. The blurred colors in this piece almost read as 'nostalgic' or historical, that the image of the past is so old that it has blurred with age. Dintino's work has to do with the melding of title and piece. His paintings all illustrate his ideas and words through visuality and color. Creating large panoramic pieces makes his work atmospheric and immersive, allowing the viewer to literally feel the title of his painting. This is quite a synesthetic approach to making art and allows ideas and words to sing. Born in San Francisco, California in 1964, Patrick Dintino grew up in Sunnyvale, in the south bay area. He went to college in San Diego earning a BA degree in Industrial Arts from San Diego State University, and co-founded Artists in Motion art collective, a group of artists who created funk-art fashion, sculpture and furniture out of reclaimed materials. He also formed a musical group called 'Naked Earth,' and handled the art direction of Ecodisc Records. He moved back to the Bay Area and earned a Masters in Fine Art degree at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA) in San Francisco and Oakland in 2001.

  • Rigging - grey and blue color landscape contemporary abstract oil painting
    Located in New York, NY
The greys and the blues in this abstract oil painting only bring to mind off-shore oil rigging. The deep murky green perfectly encapsulates the deep depths of the ocean, and the greys and blacks look like oil rigs. This piece remains quite beautiful, even despite its slightly troubling theme, and Dintino merges the colors together seamlessly. Dintino's work has to do with the melding of title and piece. Paint is acrylic with the exception of the red elements, which are formed with oil paint. The painting is executed on two connected, reclaimed wood panels...

  • Passing into the Distance
    Located in Crested Butte, CO
Passing into the Distance is part of the “Path to Eminence” series by Meghan Wilbar. During the pandemic, the uncertainty and isolation led Wilbar on a new series of work depicting the roads that lead into an unknown future. Concentrating on a stretch of Highway 96 in southern Colorado, she returned to walk, draw and absorb the change of form and color at the point where day becomes night. Just as the clouds form and dissipate, Wilbar's work reflects both the strength and fragility of our fleeting moments of time. Meghan Wilbar has always been drawn to the landscape as a subject matter. She works with a pared down sensibility to capture the experience of the land and sky...
