Socialist Realism.
Anatoly Pavlovich Levitin was a student of Boris Ioganson at the Repin Institute in Leningrad (now St Petersburg). Levitin's work is completely in line with the aesthetic dictates of the doctrine of Socialist Realism. He often depicted times of rest from the various labours of the day, as in his Pleasant Day (1957). There is nothing bold about his style, which sometimes uses a post-Impressionist technique.
A member of the Artists' Union of the USSR, and Artist of the People, Anatoly Pavlovich Levitin taught at the fine arts academy in Leningrad. He exhibited in collective exhibitions in Moscow and Leningrad (from 1948 onwards), and in exhibitions of Russian art abroad in Brussels (1958), Paris (1960), Tokyo (1975 and 1978), London (1979), Madrid (1984), and Montreal (1986).
