The kiss oil on canvas cm. 87,5 x 60 without frame cm. 103 x 83 with frame signed and dated bottom right The red cheeks, the moist eyes of the woman looking up at the man, a look full of sadness but also of love. The embracing hug and his hand over her head in a reassuring caress as if to say "it's all right, you're safe". And finally that kiss on her head: a sign of love and also of security and protection. The colors in this painting are mostly brownish, with the exception of the elegant purple dress of the woman and of the red tie on the men's brown dress. The brown as the color that expresses emotion, balance and sensuality, from the intersection of the three colors yellow, red and blue, is the perfect color to enhance the scene portrayed. Born in 1877 in Bedonia, a small town near Parma, Angelo Mambriani was above all a landscape and a figure painter, anchored to the nineteenth-century tradition but updated in the twentieth century. He moved to Florence and started to focus mainly on plen-air painting of the Tuscan countryside, creating numerous small-format paintings among which stands out the beautiful "Landscape" (“Peasaggio” in Italian) - in which the painter, with skilful brushstrokes of bright colors, represents an orchard dotted with small white houses - and "Fluvial landscape" (“Paesaggio fluviale” in Italian) remarkable for atmospheric yield and for the definition of water reflection. He was also a talented portraitist as the paintings demonstrate: "Portrait" performed by the painter in 1900, "Serene thoughts" (“Pensieri sereni” in Italian), "The bonnet" (“La cuffietta”) and "Vanity" (“Vanità”). Also of great interest is the later painting "The poet and the muse" (“Il poeta e la Musa”), in which the artist with irony and a detached eroticism, depicts a naked female figure lying on a sofa while smoking and in the foreground the poet in ecstatic vision. The painter died in Florence in 1968.
