About the Item
This oil on canvas portrait of a Hudson Valley farm worker shows on his face the demands of the work and his openness to life. The artist treats the blue denim in its many hues as if she were showing the many folds of royal clothing in an eighteenth century portrait. The scene is continued on the sides of this exquisite painting, the artist has signed it on the front.
Barbara Masterson’s work is in private and corporate collections in the United States, Italy, and Germany; she has participated in juried, solo, and group shows throughout the United States. Masterson earned an MA in education from SUNY New Paltz, and taught art for many years. In late May 2015, while painting en plein air on a local farm, she began adding migrant workers to her work. Masterson maintains a farm and studio in the Hudson Valley.
