"The Eye of Chuck Close", encaustic and oil stick

2016

About the Item

"The Eye of Chuck Close" by Ceravolo is acrylic oil stick and encaustic paint on two layers. The top lay is set about 1/2 inch in front of the bottom layer. Both layers feature the eye of fellow Hampton artist Chuck Close. The paper size measures 14 x 11" The framed size measures 20 x 17" When Ceravolo first met Chuck Close he told Chuck that he was a big influence on him and the reason that he started painting large faces in the 1970's and they discussed portrait painting. Close liked what the artist said and invited Ceravolo and his wife to his Bridgehampton studio. That is where they discussed the portrait that Ceravolo would create of Chuck Close. Ceravolo photographed Chuck in Southampton for several paintings that he was to work on. This work of art came about when Ceravolo realized that the circle shape of Close's eyeglasses and the eye of Close made for an interesting composition. The paintings of Ceravolo have received international acclaim for more four decades. His art, came to popular attention in the 1970's, when he was commissioned to create five large scale oil on canvas portraits for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City of Frank Zappa, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Hall and Oats.. In addition to those, his paintings are in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few. This is a unique one of a kind work. Signed by Ceravolo on the verso.

  • Jimi Hendrix original painting Fillmore East 1968 concept acrylic on acetate
    By David Byrd
    Located in Southampton, NY
For Rock and Roll art collectors this is one incredible rare work of art. It is an original painting created by David Byrd based on David's original 1968 first drawing for Hendrix's first 1968 appearance at The Fillmore East. It is featured numerous times in the new coffee table book on David Byrd's art titled "Poster Child" This original painting on acetate of Jimi was painted in 2006. It was based on David's 1968 original drawing of the very 1st version for Jimi's first Fillmore East appearance. When Bill Graham asked David if he can "add the other two guys" to the image, David created the now famous orange poster with all 3 members of the Experience and this first version of the poster was never created until 2006 when we asked David if he could create an original painting based on the very first drawing that he did for the concert. This original painting was exhibited at the Bethel Woods Museum which is on the site of the original 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. This original art was painted in the same exact way that David painted his other painting for the famous Hendrix poster...
