Craig Alan
Craig Alan was born in 1971 in San Bernardino, California. Upon moving to New Orleans as a child, Alan worked as a street portrait artist, using the opportunity to practice his figure drawing, as well as earn money for school and supplies.
The creative vision came naturally to Alan and he continued to develop technically and conceptually through his own diligent studies. It was not until his sophomore year at the University of Mobile, Alabama, that Alan formally began to train in arts. His affinity for the subject was immediately apparent. He continued to concentrate in studio arts, earning an area award for academic excellence. The university’s most prestigious exhibition, “Art with a Southern Drawl,” featured 42 of Alan’s pieces, chosen from a field of more than 1,600 submissions.
A minor concentration in theater provided Alan with additional techniques in makeup and set design. This added expertise supported his exploration of mixed media constructions. His skills combine to form elaborate textures, hues and compositions in his pieces. Alan’s artwork reveals a technical sophistication as well as an elaborate imagination.
Constantly craving new ways to link contemporary expressions to traditional art, Alan hopes to travel to Europe in search of artistic artifacts as well as fresh and innovative ideas. He also intends to explore his own family roots and cultural nuances in England and Scotland. Eventually, Alan plans to earn his master’s degree in studio arts in order to teach at the college level. His biggest dream is to own and manage his own atelier. He continues to exhibit his artwork across the United States.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Issued by the Gallery) "Innocence" is a captivating artwork that evokes a sense of empathy and reflection. The central figure, a woman, stands as a representation of someone who has been wrongly accused and unfairly painted with guilt. Oladapo's skilled brushwork brings forth the emotions of sorrow, pain, and resilience, creating a visually striking piece. The woman's expression carries a mix of sadness and determination, reflecting the weight of the false accusations. The use of vibrant red in the painting symbolizes the intense emotions and turmoil she has experienced. The artist's attention to detail, particularly in capturing the subtle nuances of her facial expression, adds depth and authenticity to the artwork. "Innocence" highlights the profound impact that false accusations can have on an individual's life and psyche. - Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks BeneathLocated in Ibadan, OyoAt first glance, the central figure seated on the couch draws our attention. His posture suggests a moment of introspection, an invitation for viewers to peer into his internal world. The placement of the bottle of alcohol at his feet immediately introduces a layer of symbolism, hinting at the potential for inner turmoil and emotional struggles. The artwork encapsulates the notion that some of the most significant conversations we engage in are not the ones with others but the dialogues we have with ourselves. The inner voice, often unacknowledged but constantly present, plays a pivotal role in shaping our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Whether we are conscious of it or not, our self-talk influences our perception of the world, our self-esteem, and our overall well-being. Adetayo's portrayal deftly captures the spectrum of self-talk. On one end, the inner dialogue can be a source of positivity and empowerment, much like a guiding light illuminating our path. These self-affirming conversations inspire us, boost our confidence, and encourage us to pursue our dreams. Just as sunlight glistens on the ocean's surface, these moments of self-assuredness infuse our lives with brilliance and hope. On the other hand, the presence of the alcohol bottle suggests a darker side to self-talk. Just as the ocean's depths can conceal hidden currents, negative self-talk can be equally concealed, festering below the surface. The artwork serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us that unchecked negativity can erode our self-confidence and well-being. This juxtaposition underscores the importance of cultivating a conscious and compassionate inner dialogue. "Ocean of Conversations, I Wonder What Speaks Beneath" stands as a mirror reflecting our own inner landscapes. It prompts us to consider the conversations we engage in with ourselves—do we uplift and motivate or do we undermine and doubt? Adetayo's creation invites us to reflect on our own patterns of self-talk and the ways in which they shape our experiences. Adeniyi Joshua...Category
