'Portrait of Martin Luther King' or 'A Black Man on a Black Horse; from Badgley Arnoux's 'Once Upon A Time' series is an oil painting on canvas — 72 x 66 inches. The grand artwork captures the great MLK Martin Luther King Jr, reflecting signs of the times and speaks volumes young and old alike. As the artist is now in her 90th year, she continues to paint every day. She says in her documentary 'Shadows and Light' by William Farley, "I was very old when I was young. I wasn't young until I was old". An incredible painting from an important and fascinating American woman artist who has always lived by her own rules.
"The messages in these autobiographical narratives, using Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes to examine the state of the world, are harsh in the manner of Goya’s dark, war inspired masterpieces; works Badgley-Arnoux cites definitive and continuing influences. Although this type of work can be difficult to look at, it is beautiful – beautifully executed and realized. This authentic “from the soul’ art is accomplished through the artist’s innate talent, her nearly decades of honed skills, and her willingness to remain emotionally open and vulnerable. Badgley-Arnoux gives us a once-in-a-lifetime visual experience with her timely vision of ‘Once Upon a Time".
