About the Item
The painter Elie Shamir was born in 1953 in the village Kfar Yehoshua, studied at Bezalel, and participated in many exhibitions in Israel and abroad. This exhibition centers on Shamir’s work dealing with his birthplace. After years spent in Jerusalem and Boston, Shamir returned to the village in 1999 and resettled there, as the third generation of the place’s founders.
The issue of place is present with great force and complexity in Shamir’s work; aspects of this issue pertain, among others, to that tangled knot which is tied and unraveled throughout the generations between the Jew and the land, between the immigrant and the native-born, between the local Arab and the Hebrew pioneer and his vision, between the farmer and his field. The clumps of earth in Shamir’s paintings are placed on geological strata charged with biblical past, with primeval culture, with Zionist history, with socio-economic ideology, with artistic tradition but also with his own personal family story. Kfar Yehoshua is both a personal, specific case of an agriculturBorn 1953, Kfar Yehoshua, Israel

- Mixed Media Large Pop Art Painting Drawing Brian Kenny NYC Street Art 2015Located in Surfside, FLBrian Kenny, (German-American, 1982-) MIxed Media Painting with Drawing, Oil or Acrylic on Canvas. Hand signed On Verso and Dated 2015, NYC Dimensions: Sight- 30" x 24", Frame- 36" x 30" Brian Kenny (born 1982, Heidelberg, Germany) is a NYC-based American multidisciplinary artist exhibited in galleries, museums, theaters and alternative venues in the US, Canada, Russia, Israel and across Europe. In 2004 Brian began an ongoing collaboration with artist Slava Mogutin as SUPERM, and in 2016 with writer Rich Juzwiak as BOYFRIEND HOUSE. Using an array of mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, textile, video and performance, Brian’s artwork is bright and vividly expressionistic; often autobiographical and reflective of his current states of mind which include themes of his queer identity, shifting societal perceptions about gender, sexuality and politics, urban living and free-associative wanderings of thought and creative experimentation. New York-based artist Brian Kenny’s work is a visually striking exploration of gender, sexuality, and politics in contemporary North America. Known for his experimental and expressionistic practice, Brian mixes mediums such as painting, illustration, collage, sculpture, and textiles – oftentimes all at once. Brian’s foundation in drawing is evident across his portfolio, with nearly every piece incorporating some signature scribblings from the artist. He has experimented with drawing, collage, photography, performance and, more recently, painting. “All the other mediums I’m exploring like, painting, textile art, and animation all branch out from drawing,” he explains. This focus is what makes Brian’s vast collection of work all feel so cohesive. "Both of my parents were in the US military and we moved around a lot in the US. But most of the places I lived were rural, far from big cities and art museums, so I had no idea who Andy Warhol, Mark Rothko, Chuck Close, David Hockney or Damien Hirst were. The few small art museums I visited as a child were full of old-school oil paintings; all life-like portraits, rural landscapes and historical recreations. It wasn’t until I met Slava Mogutin and moved to New York that I began to meet artists, see exhibitions at art galleries of living artists near my age, and tour lot of contemporary art museums like MoMA and begin learning about contemporary art history". Brian says. “I’m definitely not a minimalist and lean toward more narrative and figurative artwork than abstraction or decoration”. Minimalist, he is not: Brian’s work pops with vibrant colours, characters and shapes, evoking a Warholian play on pop art culture. Kenny’s signature line drawing style is reminiscent of Keith Haring and LA Ortiz and evokes comparisons to early Jean Michel Basquiat. Brian's commercial and fashion work includes art and design commissions and collaborations with Onitsuka Tiger (Japan...Category

- Mixed Media Oil Painting and Spray Paint Abstract Painting SelbstportraitBy Kadar BrockLocated in Surfside, FL"Selbstportrait Und Der Sonne" This work is part of a series of alligator paintings Brock made in 2007. All are painted in a somewhat similar and brash style, and are based on an incredibly vivid dream of an albino alligator with sunglasses. There were about ten in the series. Most were traded away to other artists, though one larger one was purchased from a gallery exhibition with the now defunct Buia Gallery in 2008. Kadar Brock (born May 28, 1980) is a casualist artist. He graduated in 2002 with a BFA from Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Brock’s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Village Voice, Artforum, Bomb Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, Interview Magazine, White Hot Magazine and Dazed and Confused, W Magazine, Bloomberg News, and Cultured Magazine. Brock first creates relatively conventional large abstract paintings, which one commentator describes as "happy". These are then "negated and disenchanted" by a long process including adding layers, scraping, puncturing, and slicing. The results of this process are what Brock exhibits. He also incorporates fragments of such canvasses into the surfaces of other works. W Magazine wrote that Brock was "... best known for his unorthodox approach to abstract painting, in which he creates frenetic, gestural images and then renders them unrecognizable with the help of a razor blade and a power sander." Marina Cashdan wrote: "His studio is an ecosystem—and an efficient one—in which the artist’s methodical and ritualistic process makes for a consistent upcycling of materials across the space: when he spray-paints, he uses a canvas as the drop cloth; that canvas becomes the start of a painting; and that painting has two fates: one sliding door is going under the razor and the industrial sander, before being coated with layers of pigments and primed, sanded, and primed, a process repeated until the desired effect is reached; the other fate is to be martyred into chips or dust." Stephan Cox, in Hunted Projects: In Dialogue wrote: "What’s fascinating is that Brock’s works are the product of an artist who aims to demystify the gesture in painting through creating rituals that in effect eradicate the didactic artist-viewer scenario. Brock doesn’t aim to create works that are easily read as being a by-product of an artist’s expression; Brock has created a set of rituals, a rolling of dice, where he, in effect has his actions directed for him. This could be through the number of brush strokes to apply or the number of cuts to make, in all, his intuitive approach to painting is not present or discernible to the viewer." In Kadar Brock’s large-scale abstract paintings, a discordant combination of techniques, styles, and colors comes together in clashing tension. By turns described as a post-graffiti and “casualist” artist, Brock riffs on the history of abstraction, employing old tropes and marshalling simple patterns and crude geometric forms into his works, while also inviting an element of chance to determine his markings. He has explored the loose, gestural, and expressive idea of abstraction in the works of German painters like Albert Oehlen and Gerhard Richter, and He has been known to roll a Dungeons & Dragons dice to dictate marks in his paintings according to the die’s symbols and numbers. In repetitive compositions, Brock allows accidents in their production (such as heavy downward paint drips) to differentiate. In 2013, Brock had his breakout solo show in New York, at The Hole, entitled “dredge.” The entire main gallery space was filled with new paintings. The show very quickly sold out. He has exhibited at galleries internationally, with solo shows at Vigo Gallery...Category
