About the Item
In the paintings by Karin Hoogesteger, humans are a central theme. The paintings are at first sight sweet, cheerful and naïve, but they hide a world full of symbolism. Karin tries to capture the truth behind the truth and wants to appeal to the feelings of her public. The symbolic layers in Karins work are represented by the materials and techniques she uses. For example, she uses acrylic paint, pencil, charcoal, ink and paper at the same time on unprepared linen. The visual layers that are hereby created, reflect the symbolic layers in her works.
In ''Holly'' a young boy stares mysteriously at the viewer. His face turned slightly sideways. Behind him is a pattern of holy leaves. This combined with the antlers gives this painting a hint of Christmas. But most definitely not in the ordinary way.
Karin Hoogesteeger (1973) studies in Kampen at the Art Academy ArtEZ. Her works can be seen on several exhibitions and national and international art fairs.
