About the Item
Lemon Meringue
Created using oil paint on canvas and at around 80 hours in the making, this work used photographic references from peonies from a local florist. With an abundance of petals, the surfaces allow sunlight to create a beautiful array of light, shadow and colour. Drawn to this almost abstract and transient beauty, Steve derives great pleasure from observing and recording such moments in the cycles of nature. Through the application of several thin layers of paint and the careful enhancement of light and shadow, Steve has strived to create an image that has depth and lustre; an homage to the beauty so readily provided by nature.
Steve takes the majority of his inspiration from the wonder and diversity of the natural world; the shapes, flows and variety of the floral subject is of particular interest to him and is where he derives much of his motivation. With a passionate interest in the way that light plays on a subject, Steve’s creative output centres around bringing an element of realism to his work, placing an emphasis on representing depth through shadows, highlights and reflections.
Painting with oil paint applied in layers on canvas, Steve works from his home studio in Wiltshire, UK. His works have been exhibited in a number of galleries in the South-West of the UK and he has sold work in the UK and internationally.
