Anne Harney
Anne Harney is a representational painter beginning her work from observation and concluding with a mix of imagination. The subjects do not always seem to have a connection, but the still life and landscape paintings all hold something personal to the artist. Personal objects such as Grandmother’s iron, plaster models, dolls, material, mirrors and soda crates from a cousin’s barn, all make for an interesting story. Her landscapes of New England include Martha’s Vineyard and the urban landscapes of Boston. She continually finds inspiration in the local color. More recent bodies of work incorporate different perspectives while reminding her that it’s just a shape and color. Trying hard to eliminate the non-essentials in her work, she hopes to create a bold and decisive statement.

- "White Peonies" small scale oil painting of white flowers in round clear vaseBy Anne HarneyLocated in Edgartown, MAAbout the Artist “Spending a lifetime of summers on Martha's Vineyard my work has evolved into natural forms of coastal scenes. My connection to the island developed a deep concern with natural forms life-plants, shells, hills, trees, stones and water. My paintings create a path of self-discovery. Reassembling pieces together from memory and imagination using textures, patterns and transparent layers make the viewer question how far reality can be pushed before it will yield the powerful essence of what is seen.” Anne Harney is a Boston-based painter who received her BFA with Honors in painting from Mass College of Art and Design in 2011.
