About the Item
Anthony Ackrill applies his classical training at Florence Academy of Art to create still life studies which are both realistic and dramatic. Enlightened Apple
is a perfect example of his technique of taking an everyday scene but showing it in an unusual way reminiscent of Rene Magritte. Ackrill adds, “My paintings are usually based on reality whether it is something I have actually felt or seen, or something I would like to see.” The richness and depth with which he paints the apple makes the viewer feel it is ready to pluck from the canvas and eat. Yet the apple hovers surprisingly above a hilly landscape in a surrealist fashion.
Artist Bio
Anthony Ackrill was born in Alaska in 1958, but spent most of his childhood in Florida and Ohio. Mr. Ackrill began to study drawing and painting on his own accord at a young age. After winning awards in several local and regional art contests, as well as selling some of his paintings, he sought a more formal education to help develop his talent. Anthony Ackrill found an excellent atelier-styled school for artists in Florence, Italy and enrolled in late 1995, at the age of 37.
In his second year in Florence, Mr. Ackrill began teaching anatomy to his fellow students, and then also taught drawing and painting. After five years of painting and teaching in Florence Italy, he returned to Florida, where he now has his own studio. Anthony has sold paintings internationally and has been represented in some of the largest art shows in the world including Art Basel and Palm Beach Art Show.
