Brett Eberhardt
Leaking Linseed Bottle, Container, White Bag, Blue, Realistic Studio Still Life

2015

About the Item

In this quiet still life painting, a single bottle of linseed oil in a crumbled white bag with light blue letters on the side stands atop a nondescript white cardboard box that reads "studio" on the top. The objects are unexpectedly dramatic against a stark white wall; a dark shadow is cast to the right side of the white box. Signed, dated and titled on verso. Brett Eberhardt’s painted interiors are inhabited by singular objects, and are vacant of human presence save the reminders in the painted surfaces, worn floor boards or a work table softened by use. Eberhardt’s humble interiors, lushly described in oil paint, depict the well-loved surfaces of his studio and home in a tender, devout manner. Eberhardt earned his MFA at Syracuse University and currently teaches in the art department of Manchester Community College in Manchester, CT.

  • City Glow: Cityscape Oil Painting of New York City in Pastel Palette
    By Patty Neal
    Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary cityscape painting of New York City skyline with a light blue and green palette “City Glow”, painted by Patty Neal in 2019 18 x 18 inches on wood panel Wire backing, artist signature located in lower right corner This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view of New York City was painted by Brooklyn based artist, Patty Neal. Made with gestural impressionistic brushstrokes, this painting offers a view of the Manhattan skyline on a bridge through the window of a passing car. The mint green infastructure compliments the dusty blue and sandy oranges of the city in the background. This piece is traditional of Neal’s work which commonly highlights everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus. The cityscape scene is completed on wood panel with white painted sides. Artist statement: A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries. The focus of my work for many years has been the exploration of these various life aspects and how they are bound together or bound from each other. My process is often literally composed of boundaries. I make a painting by putting together multiple panels, or I segment a single panel into separate visual spaces. The works are made up of pieces or elements of city and landscape. While exploring the concepts of boundaries I play with visual “reality.” Sometimes I combine images that are upside down with those that are not and juxtapose images from different contexts. Literal boundaries, such as walls fences, expanses of water and highway median strips are also used. My intent is to invite viewers to look beyond these boundaries to see the possibilities of a connected whole.
