ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Dani Humberstone uses the symbolism of ripe fruit to illustrate the narrative. Painting directly from life allows her to translate three dimensions into two and capture the essence or life force of the subject. Individual fruits damage easily so as they slowly age she tracks their gradual decay in the painting as she works. Fruit has been used metaphorically in art and language for centuries. It has helped Illustrate Fairy Tales, Mythology, The Bible and Shakespeare for example. An apple in Renaissance painting was symbolic of ‘a fallen woman’ and we still use fruit analogies to describe ourselves and our lives today. In her own work the artist also uses elements of abstraction, landscape or line drawing to hint at a deeper narrative within and opening the door to unseen possibilities beyond the immediate image. Dani Humberstone paints in oils, predominantly Old Holland Classic Oil colour - using transparent glazes over opaque colour which creates intense levels of luminosity and depth. Strong light and shade, chiaroscuro, give atmosphere and tone.

- Osnat Yaheli Sarbagili, Planters , 2017 oil on canvas 93 x 52 cm (37 x 20 in)Located in Jerusalem, ILOsnat Yaheli Sarbagil Planters , 2017 oil on canvas 93 x 52 cm (37 x 20 in) Focusing on the detailed patterns of faux-marble tiles, her paintings assimilate abstract geometric compositions. Occasionally an object such as a plant or a garbage can disrupt the severe cold surfaces to create a human scale or reference. Her works criticize the local architecture of the day as a reflection of the pseudo “New Israeli” identity they try to portray. Today mayors and real- estate entrepreneurs join forces to promote unprecedented amounts of new building projects and neighborhoods. These are designed to boost the city image as a place for young families of wealthy professionals. In turn, the Israeli public seeks to ameliorate from their run-down block- apartments and move into “luxury towers”. Though her works seem like photo-realistic academic painting, they are in fact constructed from a succession of false manipulations- digitally processed photographs create the desired composition, masking-tape helps create the straight lines and splashes of paint create the tile patterns. These images are engineered renderings...Category
