Roses, Original Signed Contemporary Impressionist Floral Still Life Painting

2014

About the Item

Roses, Original Contemporary Impressionist Floral Still Life Painting, 2014 20" x 16" x 1.5" (HxWxD) Acrylic on Canvas Hand-signed by the artist. In this work, artist Ingrid Dohm has depicted traditional still life subject matter: vases of flowers, but put them in an exterior setting with the hint of an impressionist landscape in the background. The red, white, and blue of the roses, foliage, and glass vessels stands out nicely against the yellow green of the landscape they sit within. Painted en plein aire, the artist has utilized the sunlight to depict reflections on the glass and highlights on each flower's petals, creating a colorful impressionist composition. Artist Commentary: This is an original acrylic on canvas floral still life painting. Artist Biography: Born and raised in a small town in Austria near forests, glens and mountains, Ingrid Dohm was constantly seeking out varied kinds of floral beauty. During the summer months, in a high mountain lake enclosure, she and her siblings would make daylong forays into the forests solely to see what kinds of flowers they could encounter. A difficult find, but a most sought after one, was the edelweiss. One had to climb up the side of a mountain to see edelweiss growing as an outcropping in the rocks. This was the trophy of the day! Another favored sight was the Christrose, commonly called the Schneerose or snow rose, because it could be seen popping up out of the snow covered ground. In school Ingrid was always fascinated with any instrument be it pen, pencil or crayon, that could make anything from a straight line to a complicated image. She never understood this strong attraction for art supplies, or the connection between that attraction and her love of nature. It wasn’t until Ingrid came to the United States and married that the association was made. A casual remark by her husband, that she had a natural talent and propensity to draw and paint, made her realize that she ought to get going. A starter paint kit was purchased and that’s the beginning of the story.

  • A Walk along the River
    By Marion Buricatu
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: I’ve always wanted to paint a series on La Fleche, and it is happening… slowly. I love the very particular, soft lighting that seems so characteristic of the Loire Valley. Then, as I was looking through some pictures, this photo caught my painting teacher’s eye. She said, “I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with this one!” This painting has three “fun” things about it. First, it is painted over a bright orange base coat like the two others in the series. Second, painting complementary colors over one another (the blue of the water over the orange base) normally results in something very similar to… mud. I had to be very careful! Third, this may not sound fun but I love painting grass and foliage - I use a technique where you hold the paintbrush at its tip, and just turn it around and around so the brushstrokes are almost touching. Do you have pictures saved where you always wonder, “what would that look like as a painting?” Or, “how would an artist or painter interpret my vacation picture?” You never know if they’ll start by painting the canvas orange! Words that describe this piece: France, river, flower, water, reflection, walk, Artist Biography: Life is basically a huge collection of moments. Sometimes you have no idea how everything will end up tying together - Marion Buricatu...

  • Chateau Marmont Hotel
    By Kathleen Keifer
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer's original artworks represent one of the most significant expressions of New California Realism. Keifer brings a fresh perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her detailed paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye for clever composition and layered colors. Her modern landscapes and sublime seascapes capture an impressive visceral visual. This one-of-a-kind 16-inch high by 24-inch wide artwork is a composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The sides are painted as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping available. Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage. While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects. Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London. • Bluebells Woods 1, Impressionist Landscape Artwork, Original Floral Painting
    By Rosemary Farrer
    Located in Deddington, GB
Bluebell woods 1 is an original painting by Rosemary Farrer. At this time of year I head for the woods to paint the bluebells. The colours are very hard to capture, not quite purple, not quite blue, photographs don't quite do them justice. This is where a painting has an advantage over a photograph, a combination of cooler blues and warmer purples, side by side, mix optically and create a shimmering field of colour, flecks of lime green from the new beech leaves provide the perfect foil. Rosemary Farrer, artists and printmaker sells with Wychwood Art online and in our art gallery in Oxfordshire. Rosemary paints in oils and also makes original prints. The prints are in no way copies of the paintings, they are conceived of, and made, as a response to the special and wonderful effects that can be achieved only through the various techniques of printmaking, whether it be the graphic, dynamic marks of a linocut, or the subtle tones and textures achievable in aquatint and etching. Design, composition and the use of colour are what excite her. She spends a lot of time drawing and painting outside, back in the studio, she will distil these ideas into strong graphic woodcuts, and linos or subtly textured etchings. Recent monotypes draw together the threads of her different media, with their graphic shapes and rich painterly colours. She studied fine art at Camberwell School of Art and The Ruskin School of Drawing, and learned printmaking at Morley College [London]. She has exhibited prints...
