A good antique French floral still life by the French artist Jules Francois Bernard (1884-1942), oil on canvas, dated 1920.
This very attractive impressionistic still life depicts a colorful bouquet of peonies in a blue & white pottery handled jug, standing on a table with fallen petals. The painting has a bright & luminous feel, with a light impasto technique where is paint is generously applied providing depth and texture to the canvas. The painting is signed and dated lower left, "Jules Francois Bernard 1920", the painting is housed in the original giltwood & composition frame with a floral deign in relief. Condition of the painting and frame and very good indeed, this very attractive painting is ready to hang on your wall and grace your home.
Jules Francois Bernard was a French painter born in 1884 in the city of Nantes located in the Pays de la Loire region. Bernard was a very talented painter and known for his impressionistic style, mainly painting landscapes, portraits and still life works. He was married to the daughter of the famous French Impressionist Camille Pissarro and evidently was significantly influenced by Pissarro. Bernard's paintings are in a number of gallery collections2500 throughout Europe and North America,
