Lars Boëthius
Mid century Swedish Impressionist still life of flowers in an interior

Circa 1950

About the Item

Born in Stockholm the son of a sea captain, Boëthius studied at the Celeb Althins Art Academy from 1920 to 1921 followed by the National Art Academy in Stockholm from 1921 to 1923. He exhibited at the Swedish–French Art Gallery in Stockholm in the late 1920s and held solo exhibitions at the Galerie Moderne in Silkaborg, Denmark. Boëthius affiliated himself with the Smedsuddsnaive movements, which inspired a 12-year fascination with naïve art, particularly inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau. In the 1930s, Boëthius’s work entered a darker phase, characterized by urban angst filled images. He also showed up in Gavle, Sweden, and Ornskoldsvik during the 1940s. Boëthius’s work is represented in the Modern Museum, Gothenburg Museum, the Art Academy of Stockholm, and the museums of Malmö and Ystad. Choosing to purchase a mid-20th-century Swedish Impressionist still life of flowers by Lars Boethius offers a unique opportunity to bring the timeless beauty of nature into your living space with a touch of Nordic charm. Boethius, a skilled artist of the era, infuses this painting with the hallmarks of Impressionism, creating a piece that goes beyond mere representation. This exquisite still life is more than a floral arrangement; it's a poetic interpretation of nature's ephemeral beauty. Boethius's mastery of color and light captures the essence of each bloom, creating a scene that seems to dance with life. The soft, brushstroke-filled ambiance transports the viewer to a moment frozen in time, where the beauty of flowers becomes a celebration of the fleeting joys of existence. Owning this painting is not just acquiring art; it's inviting the tranquility and serenity of a Swedish garden into your home. The play of light on petals, the gentle interplay of colors, and the delicate composition showcase Boethius's ability to evoke emotion through his art. Displaying this still life is an embrace of the Nordic aesthetic—a fusion of nature, light, and a contemplative atmosphere. In essence, this mid-20th-century Swedish Impressionist still life is an investment in a piece of art that transcends its floral subject matter. It's a timeless celebration of the beauty found in simplicity, an ode to nature's grace, and a visual symphony that resonates with the artistic legacy of Lars Boethius.

Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career. Since 1992, she has studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike, and others at the Scottsdale Art...
