About the Item

Dutch, 1843-1896 The painter Margaretha CJW Roosenboom (The Hague, 1843 – Voorburg 1896) grew up in a real artist's family. She was taught by her father Nicolaas Johannes Roosenboom and by her grandfather, the famous Andreas Schelfhout. Roosenboom is known for her still lifes, which usually contain flowers or fruit. She excelled in making her subjects appear lifelike. Roosenboom pays a lot of attention to light in both her watercolors and oil paintings. During her career, Roosenboom was a member of several artist companies, including Pulchri Studio in The Hague and Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. She exhibited regularly in Antwerp, Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. Today, her work is present in the collections of several major museums in the Netherlands, such as: – Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam – Centraal Museum in Utrecht – Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam
