About the Item

Delphiniums and Cosmos [2020] Original Flowers Acrylic on canvas Canvas size: H:80 cm x W:80 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:80 cm x W:80 cm x D:2,4cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look Artist Mary Chaplin was inspired by the blue delphiniums and white cosmos that formed a flower bed in her garden. The artist likes to create harmonies of colours as much in her garden as in these works. The orange of the first dahlias brings a tonic note to this work. The painting is a beautiful balance between abstraction and figurative art. Blue dominates and highlights bright reds and spring yellows. This painting is painted on linen canvas with high quality acrylic paints. It is not framed but ready to hang. Mary Chaplin is a French artist and lives and works in Wailly, a picturesque hamlet surrounded by ponds, rivers and woods, in the North of France. Mary Chaplin for more than twenty years has worked as a self-taught professional artist, always inspired by nature and by the varying effects of light. She started her career by painting figurative scenes she saw around her in the French countryside. Her first artworks were representations of landscapes, gardens, forests, rivers or lakes, which allowed her to explore different techniques, including pastel, oil, acrylic and watercolour. However, both her life and career reached a turning point in 2005 when she witnessed the ‘holy light’ in a chapel she was visiting; she was deeply touched and inspired by the beauty of the reflections coming from the stained-glass windows, and thus she started painting them, calling them her ‘reflections’, or, in French, ‘méditations’. After that experience in the chapel, her will to convey the ephemeral nature of the light she captures, and its soothing warmth, became stronger. This new artistic birth enabled her to follow new paths in which she explores light’s numerous and ever changing facets. This deeply influenced her artistic style and work as it gave them a new dimension, shifting from a figurative representation of light in landscapes and still life to an abstract and more personal and metaphorical interpretation and appropriation of light’s fugacity. Since her beginnings, artist and painter Mary Chaplin’s work has been published in several article in the press and in specialized art magazines. It also has been broadcasted on television and is regularly exhibited in festivals dedicated to sacred art as well as in art galleries throughout different countries, including France, Belgium and England.

Moonlight Phantasy [2021] Original Acrylics on canvas Image size: H:30 cm x W:30 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:30 cm x W:30 cm x D:3.5cm Sold Unframed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look "Moonlight Phantasy" comes from a lovely wood near my home in the High Peak. When the moon is full you can walk in the evening and it feels almost as light as day. The wood is quiet with dark tones of the trees creating shadows in the pale moonlight. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism. The painting continues round the sides, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang. Amanda Horvath...

  • A Walk in the Rose Garden of the Princess Grace of Monaco, Diptych, Original art
    By Mary Chaplin
    Located in Deddington, GB
This work was inpired by the memory of a pleasant walk with friends to discover Princess Grace’s rose garden in Monaco. I wanted to grab the moment capturing the sun, the colors and the perfumes, a potpourri of happiness where one immerses oneself in the well being that such a place offers. The large size of the diptych makes you want to enter the place. The old olive tree has been simplified, its foliage and the sky are one, so it looks like a sentinel watching over the roses. Convinced by the positive impact that nature has on the quality of our lives, through my art, I wish to transmit this myriad of beneficent feelings. This work is made with high quality acrylic paint on top quality linen canvas. Additional Information: 'A walk in the rose garden of the Princess Grace of Monaco...

  • Aradhana-22, Acrylic on Canvas Red by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
    Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Anil Kumar Yadav - Aradhana-22 - 72 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism.
