Mersuka Dopazo
"Still Life IX" Oversized Table Scene Framed Mixed Media on Canvas

About the Item

"Still Life IX" is a framed mixed media work on canvas by Mersuka Dopazo, depicting a teapot, bowls, vases, and assorted plants and fruits. The artist's incorporation of found fabrics and materials adds texture and dimension, crafting a sense of delight and spontaneity amidst the larger-than-life tabletop scene. This piece is finished in a silver scoop floater frame with a black woodgrain effect on the frame’s interior and sides. Pricing includes the pictured frame. Unframed dimensions are 63 X 70 inches. About the artist: Mersuka Dopazo sees her work as a “travelogue from unexpected territory.” The Spanish artist creates large-scale naïve-style collages using fabric and hand-made, natural papers. These special materials are sourced all over the world directly from the craftsman, from locations such as Italy and Spain. Often densely patterned, the papers and fabrics are juxtaposed with gestural line, pigment and areas of gessoed white canvas, the collages exploring the balance of color and the relationship between positive and negative space. Unexpected connections form between clashing textures and motifs and between the regularity of pattern and the free form of broken graphite and improvised color. Contrasting modes of creativity are illustrated - rhythm and order versus sinuous spontaneity. Mersuka Dopazo’s works have been exhibited extensively in the UK, the USA, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and Europe. Dopazo lives and works between Madrid and Bali.
