About the Item
Oil on canvas, inscribed on reverse
Image size: 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches (47 x 47 cm)
This abstract still life has been painted intuitively by the artist in a limited palette of soft bright blues, neutral creams, greys and blacks. The work is less about complex representation and more about condensing and simplifying things to their most essential nature.
Rob Shepherd
Rob Shepherd was born above a pub in Windsor where his father was landlord but spent his childhood in Plymouth when the family moved there.
Shepherd studied Fine Art at West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham, and whilst spending his days as a van driver transporting prosthetic limbs around the country, he started an evening class in bookbinding at Camberwell College of Arts.
After leaving art school Shepherd moved into the world of book-binding and quickly made a career in this industry. Shepherd also briefly taught Art in a girl's school in Battersea, London.
