A beautiful naïf oil on canvas still life depicting spring blossom in a wedgwood vase by Thraki Rossidou Jones of Cyprus. Signed and dated 1985 lower right above the rug. Thraki Rossidou Jones started painting in 1980. She developed her very own distinctive style and became one of the most well-known Naif Cypriot artists. Thraki took part in many national and international solo and group exhibitions throughout her long career. Artist: Thraki Rossidou Jones (Cypriot, 1920-2007) Title: Spring Blossom in a Wedgwood Vase Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 20 x 24 inches (61 x 51 cm) including frame Biography Thraki Rossidou Jones 1920 (-2007) Born in Famagusta, Cyprus 1938 Moved to London 1939 Returned to Cyprus 1945 Moved to Wolverhampton, England 1953 Studied art of Bilston College of Art, England 1968 Returned to Famagusta, Cyprus 1974 During the Turkish invasion of Cyprus Thraki and her family leave Famagusta spending 10 months in the Angio Refugee Camp, Dhekealia. In the meantime their son returns to England, and they move to Limassol. Artist: Philippe Marie René Picard (French, 1915-1997) Title: Flowers & Fruits in a Window Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 21 x 32 inches (54 x 82 cm) Philippe Marie René Picard was born in the small village of Neuvy-le-Roi in France. His parents were Albert Picard and Marie Lehoux; he had a total of six siblings. After studying at the Lycée Descartes in Tours, he entered the studio of the artist François Sicard. He was then accepted to the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Tours from 1932 to 1934, where he was a pupil of Maurice Mathurin. In 1935, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris, then in 1936-1938 the studio of Fernand Sabatté, and finally Charles-François-Prosper Guérin studio. Phillippe Marie exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants 1945, where the city of Paris bought the first painting. He then exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants until 1989. In 1946 when this painting was created, he exhibited for the first time in Stockholm. At the end of the same year, he was noticed by Youki Desnos and exhibit at the Fontan gallery in Paris. In 1947 and 1948, he participated in a group exhibition at the Marquié Gallery in New York under the title: School of Paris - Paintings with Eugène Boudin , Jean-Baptiste Corot , Braque , Andre Lhote , Élisée Maclet , Camille Pissarro and Henri Rousseau. He travelled to Sweden from October to November 1949. It will be his only trip abroad. Subsequently, he made several important exhibitions in Sweden.
