About the Item

Svend Hammershoi (1873 Frederiksborg, Copenhagen 1948), View over the Roof-tops of Frederiksborg Castle, Denmark, Oil on Panel, Signed: SH, in it's original frame "Designer, painter and trained ceramicist, Svend Hammershøi was the younger brother of Vilhelm Hammershøi. He studied in 1889 at a technical school in Copenhagen before being admitted to the Kongelige Akademi for de Skonne Kunster. In 1944 he received the Eckersberg medal. While Vilhelm focused on interiors, Svend preferred open air landscapes and historic buildings often obscured by leafless branches on cold winter days. As in most of Svend's compositions, colours of olive-green and ochreous red emphasize both of his favorite themes: trees and architecture." Frame dimensions: 17-3/4 x 14-1/4 inches
