​Francisca Sutil is a Chilean painter known for her research of the chromatic surface, the nature of the support and the study of textures and materials that she prepares herself. Born in Santiago de Chile in 1952, she moved to New York where she received an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute in 1981. Since 1992, Sutil has lived and worked in Santiago. Sutil’s work is characterized by its superb construction and unique contemplative qualities. When approaching her paintings, the viewer is immediately captivated by the textures and hues. She proposes a rigorous exercise of painting on support, regardless of its material composition, in search of pictorial depth. It is a mental process from which a neat and pure chromatic production emerges. Intending no specific content in her paintings, she instead asks viewers to respond openly and honestly to her abstractions. She uses her work to provoke emotions and sensations, and in turn, encourages reflection, meditation and lasting thoughts and memories...

Grey & Tan Abstract Expressionist Textural Mid-Century Abstract by Peter Witwer Heavily textured, expressive composition by Peter Witwer (American, 1928-1968). Over the top of a heavy base layer of plaster, Witwer has added various layers of oil paint, creating a massive amount of depth and texture. Sections of red peek out from underneath various shades of tan, grey, and black. Spots of blue and purple are used sparingly, hidden in the composition. Presented in a wood frame. Canvas size: 20"H x 40"W Frame size: 26.63"H x 46.63"W Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Richmond Burton’s works are known for their kaleidoscopic color, undulating patterns, and lyrical handling of expressionistic mark making.
