About the Item
Ancient # 12 is a wonderful color photograph realized by the Italian artist Edoardo Montaina and print on William Turner Hanhemuhle and Baryta Photo Rag Hanhemuhle paper.
Signed, numbered and titled in black ink on the center of the paper on the back. From an edition of 9 specimens, plus 2 artist's proofs. In excellent conditions.
This photograph is part of a series dedicated to the free interpretation of objects through his research of the symmetry, two fundamental aspects of much of Edoardo Montaina's production.
"I always thought that symmetry could be a way to perfection, but over time, working with symmetrical images, I became convinced that it can have two contradictory faces, on the one hand it can actually be the symbol of a formal perfection, but more often than not it gives the images a subtle unreal and almost frightening aspect, which is perhaps why perfect symmetry does not exist in nature ".
His work is the answer to his questions How to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, the usual into the mysterious, the question about the shape that leaves open various answers?
Transform images of known things into pure forms opens up new horizons, these ambiguous, charming and frightening new images are like rebus games to decipher and to attribute new meanings and personal interpretations.
As Montaina likes to say, it is an unconscious content that is revealed and that rises to the surface and becomes an image; in this case the formal research work, usual concept and practice for the arstist.
