About the Item

My work falls within the realm of experimental photography through the use of digital retouching. Through this digital medium, I emphasize the uncertainty of photography. I bring an aesthetic to the image that is reminiscent of painting or drawing, questioning the colors, shapes, and textures that a photograph can convey. Through the back-and- forth process between the initial image, which I refer to as ‘raw’ and the final ‘worked’ image, I operate through the overlaying, multiplication, and fusion of different layers of digital adjustments. I compare these layers to brushstrokes, to drawing lines that construct the image and enhance its meaning. During the image construction phase, the goal is to let the eye move back and forth, searching for what will determine the energy emanating from the subject. It is a form of letting go, similar to painting, where intuition leads to a culmination or finality. I capture the transformations of the visible. The image becomes a modifiable surface, a multi-layered tableau. Color enhances the vibrations of the subject. ‘When I speak of vibrations, I refer to what radiates, emanates from a surface’. This results in forms, lines, and textures that, in turn, define the subject. These vibrations amplify the human contours; they surround and lead to flows. These vibrations are energies that circulate and allow us to see the subject in a different light, bringing forth the essence of humanity. Through the image, the responses become an ‘intuitive evidence’ more than in language. I directly perceive a sensation, an emotion through color or light that surprises and questions my vision. The image is read as poetic and invites observation. I analyze the subject through layers of adjustments to reinvent it. I reveal layers of visibility beneath the surface, a contact surface with our world on which light has left its imprint/writing. Through this digital painting technique, the photographic field becomes a pictorial field. The aesthetics of my images explore reality to strive for an allegorical universe.
