Birkenheuer received his Associates Degree from the Antonelli Institute of Photography in Cincinnati, OH in 1988. He relocated to Chicago in 1994, where he has built a reputation for exacting professionalism in commissioned Headshots & individual, couple and group Portraits. In recent years, he has taught photography courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, exciting a new generation with his passion.
