About the Item
Erica Kelly Martin is an artist and photographer, based in Los Angeles, whose work centers on recurring themes of identity, transformation, and the paradox of human existence, condensed in a moment.
She photographs people, often in their natural surroundings, depicting their rituals and the manifestations of their interior lives, as well as landscapes that show the mark of their inhabitants. She is interested in themes of growing up, of putting on masks, or casting them aside, who people are, or who they would like to be. She creates intimate portraits, often in prosaic places.
Martin studied at Amherst College and Hampshire College, the International Center of Photography in New York, the University of Chicago, and the Los Angeles Center of Photography. In addition to her photography work, Erica is a metalsmith, creating collectible pieces, well as an attorney, working to protect the environment. She travels for assignment around the world, and lives and works in Los Angeles with her partner, children, and various rescue animals. Martin’s work has been shown in galleries and shows across the United States, as well as in Paris and Milan.
