About the Item

Elizabeth Hurley photographed by British celebrity and fashion photographer John Stoddart. This risqué iconic black and white photograph expresses her incredible figure, capturing the actress completely naked, against the head of a large Grecian bust. John Stoddart is known as the “Photographer to the Stars”, recognized as one of the world’s most renowned photographers. Born in the United Kingdom, his work includes photographing glamorous celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sir Anthony Hopkins, to big name bands such as “The Rolling Stones”. By the early 1980’s, Stoddart had photographed every major record label band, establishing himself as one of the world’s great celebrity and also boudoir photographers. A notoriously fast photographer, he has a preference for working with film as opposed to digital. His passion for photography carries over to the complete printing process and also includes his collection of beautiful, era gone by cameras. He is not just a photographer; he is an artist. His work captures not just a picture but a story that can be told to the viewer through the eyes of his subjects. He has worked for major publications and brands that included Vogue, Harper’s, EMI and Virgin and is often credited for the return of glamour to popular culture. Stoddart has exhibited world-wide, including galleries in London and Paris. The Sofitel Hotel, Beverly Hills in 2017 held an “A” list invitation only exhibition and has continued to use his celebrity images as framed art throughout the hotel. His work appeared prominently on covers & editorial pages of LIFE, TIME, PARIS MATCH, SATURDAY EVENING POST, COLLIERS, and other major international publications. Gigli's groundbreaking portraits include Sophia Loren (at age 21), Anita Ekberg, Marcel Duchamp, John F. Kennedy, Halston, Gina Lollobrigida, Diana Vreeland, Giancarlo Giannini, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Sir Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, Richard Burton, & many more. Most of these images have not been widely seen since they first appeared over four decades ago. Gigli worked more like a film director than a photojournalist. His ability to earn his subjects' trust in his vision -- often during complicated, uncomfortable, even dangerous setups -- was as important to the photos as his technical finesse with the camera. His disarming way with his subjects is evident in the revealing anecdotes of the people and times he so vividly recalls. He was welcomed backstage on Broadway as readily as he was in the private lives of celebrities. Some of Gigli's favorite photographs were self-assigned, international award-winners, such as "Girls in the Windows...
