A limited Edition Print by National Geographic Photographer Keith Ladzinski from his series “The Cost of Consumption” - To hold industrial value through the eyes of humans is more often than not a certified bestowment of certain death. The industrial revolution in many ways provided the advancement of good for humanity, yet equally paved the way for mass extinction, wide spread pollution and the destruction of ecosystems globally. Its primary fuel has been greed, mismanagement and ambivalent disregard of reverberating consequence. Today, we are facing a rapid decline of species and habitat at a scale and pace never before seen in human history, and one that may be beyond repair. This series focuses on species, habitat and historical cause and effect through the world of profit and exploitation.
Perhaps the most iconic of avian species in North America is the Bald Eagle. This emblematic bird of the United States was brought to the fringe of extinction on the continent after a synthetic insecticide known as DDT, short for Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane, was introduced into the environment. As chemical residue began to wash off from agricultural fields and into aquatic ecosystems, Bald Eagles and other large predatory birds across the country began rapidly dying off, a result of the contaminated fish they were consuming.
It was only through the banning of the chemical coupled with a mass conservation effort that Bald Eagles, and a host of species, were spared, and have today made a full and successful recovery.

Keith Ladzinski
Keith Ladzinski is a National Geographic Photographer and Emmy nominated director. His work primarily focuses on natural history, climate change, extreme sports, fine art and advertising campaigns, sending him to the furthest reaches of the 7 continents multiple times over on photo and film assignments. Keith is the co-founder of Triage Creative, a founding member of the Sea Legacy Collective and has worked for clients globally including Apple, Disney, Google, Nike, Toyota, Adidas, Oprah Network, Canon, Discovery, Subaru, Red Bull, The North Face, OPPO, The New York Times, and National Geographic TV. Keith is a highly decorated photographer and has earned 1st place honors from Communication Arts, PDN, The International Library of Photography and National Geographic. He's photographed over 100 magazine cover stories for a wide variety of publications globally including National Geographic Magazine, the Washington Post Sunday Magazine and the front page of the New York Times. His work as a Director and Director of Photography have earned Keith 3 Telly's and 2 Emmy nominations.
