Roxanne Lowit is known for her backstage photography of famous faces and wild parties. This iconic photograph of Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington is her signature piece and perfectly encapsulates the supermodel glamour of a bygone era. It depicts the three Models sitting at a table, a party is going on in the background as each Model covers either their mouth, eyes or ears with their hands - an ode to the Japanese pictoral maxim of the three wise monkeys.
Daring poses, red lips, crooked smiles, and sex appeal characterize the photographic oeuvre of the late Roxanne Lowit. Catapulting us straight back into a decade of excess and ecstasy, her unfiltered lens into the 90s reveals more than ever. Uninterested in glossy façades, the star photographer captured the unseen without being voyeuristic. Eternalizing the prime of supermodel culture with Kate Moss and Naomie Campbell, enfant terribles of the art circus, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, or dictators of taste, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Lowit’s work embodies the Who's Who.
