1997

About the Item

Tom Baril, iconic Chrysler shot is fabulous for an urban setting. Shot in his classic style that makes the image look like a still from a film. He was born in Connecticut in 1952 and in 1980 earned a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. During his time New York, he spent over fifteen years as Robert Mapplethorpe's master printer. In this vintage black and white photo of the top of the Chrysler building, Tom pays homage to the early pioneers of the medium. His architectural photos are both graceful and precise compositions that highlight his mastery as a photographer and artist. Today, his photographs are held in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, among others.
