About the Item
The implied act of opening the boxes, releases the energy of the occupants, allowing
them to take flight. The people and objects confined within, through the simple act of
unfolding, are exposed revealing what was previously hidden.
Acrobats, circus performers, and divers come flying out of the opened boxes, all
performing daring acts that most people would be hesitant to perform, but we find them
exhilarating to observe. I try to convey excitement, and energy in images that are
playful, expressive, and nostalgically bring the viewer back to the joyful moments of
anticipation felt in childhood.
The sense of nostalgia evoked in the graphic synthesis of these images is augmented
through the use of a wash of warm sepia tones that permeate the images. There is also
a visual correlation between inhabitants of the boxes and the boxes themselves. The
folds of the boxes having a quality not unlike origami, is reflected in the contortionist-like
bending of the human forms within.

- At the Petrol Station - Vintage Silver Salt Photograph by A. RodcenkoLocated in Roma, ITAt the petrol station is an original vintage silver salts photograph, made by the great Russian Constructivist artist Aleksandr Michajlovic Rodčenko (Saint Petersburg, 1891 - Moscow, 1956) in 1935 ca. Printed later, presumably between the 1940s and the 1950s. In very good conditions, it is rare and precious. A scene of ordinary life is portrayed in an unusual point of view. The oblique cuts, the use of diagonal as the dynamics of this image, the close position of the machine are constants of Rodčenko'style and something of absolutely revolutionary and innovative at that time in the field of photography! Provenance: Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, Great Britain; Forum Auction, London; Private Collection. Bibliography: Alexander Rodchenko. Catalog of the retrospective exhibition published from the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1979. Aleksandr Michajlovič Rodčenko (St. Petersburg, 1891 - Moscow, 1956) Aleksandr Michajlovič Rodčenko was a Russian painter, photographer and graphic designer, a leading figure of the Russian avant-gardes who collaborated in the establishment of the Constructivist movement. - Vintage Silver Gelatin Photograph Jacques Lipchitz Bronze Sculpture Photo SignedBy Adolph StudlyLocated in Surfside, FLAdolph Studly, Swiss born American photographer. His work is kept in the Photographic Archive at The Museum of Modern Art Archives, New York. He was known for his gallery photographs of works by artists represented primarily by the Buchholz gallery, Curt Valentin, and Stephen Radich Galleries. Artists whose work he shot include Max Beckmann, Francis Bacon, Chaim Soutine, Allan Kaprow, Clyfford Still, Georges Braque, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Picasso, Auguste Rodin, Georges Rouault. He worked with Louis H. Dreyer, the pre-eminent architecture photographer in New York City. Chaim Jacob Lipchitz, 1891-1973, was born in Lithuania and came of age in Paris during the early 20th century, where he was active in the avante-garde community of Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Diego Rivera, Chaim Soutine, and Juan Gris. Art historian H. H. Arnason, who ranked Lipchitz with Picasso and Marc Chagall, wrote, "Lipchitz, as a pure sculptor, is ...unquestionably one of the greatest sculptors of this century." The architect Philip Johnson asked Lipchitz to make a wall sculpture to be placed on the brick chimney over a fireplace of a guest house owned by Mrs. John D. Rockefeller III on West 53rd Street in New York. Lipchitz decided to develop the piece from his Pegasus designs and call it Birth of the Muses in honor of the Rockefellers' interest in the arts. In 1950 he completed the work as a bronze relief five feet high. It was installed as planned and later was acquired by Lincoln Center. He participated in the Flight portfolio...Category
