This stunning Art Nouveau structure quickly turned into a gathering place for affluent tourists and businesspeople from all over the world. Unlucky events over the 20th century caused it to progressively deteriorate. During World War II, it was converted into a hospital before becoming a restaurant. In the 1990s, it shut down.
The photographic work of Gina Soden is incredibly poetic. She manages to give these unusual places a beauty they’ve either lost or never had to start with. With her pictorial treatment and a lyrically artistic approach the artist awakens a magic that inhabits these places and embellishes them, through her detailed compositions, with a triumphant aspect. The colours astonish, the light, almost divine, bedazzles and the haunting disorder of these places seems somehow to be appeased.

Gina Soden
Gina Soden, artist and photographer, is available at Wychwood Art. At the heart of Gina Soden’s photography is a preoccupation with abandoned structures and locations. Based in London, she travels widely to undisclosed sites throughout Europe and explores the boundaries of beauty, decay, nostalgia and neglect. The genesis of each piece is often the unique architectural character of each location, heightened by their painfully slow transformation after years of abandonment.
