The Treasure Tree

2021

About the Item

A limited Edition Print by National Geographic Photographer Keith Ladzinski from his series “Rooted: The Importance and Beauty of Trees”. Over the last 10,000 years, the planet has lost over 1/3rd of its forests, some 5 Million square miles, half of that since the 1900’s. Tree’s are responsible for 3 of every 10 breaths of air we inhale, and provide shelter and habitat for countless species. Simply put, a world without trees would be bleak and inhospitable for terrestrial animals in a whole, they bring balance, beauty and stability to life here. Over the last century humans have cut down half of the planets rainforests for lumber and agricultural habitat. As heat index and drought conditions continue to increase, many trees are facing an ever increased threat of wild fire and access to fresh water. This series focuses on the beauty and hardships of trees around the world. Perched high above the valley on the rocky mountains of Great Basin National Park, the Treasure Tree is a specimen of strength and perseverance. Over 3,000 years old, this tree has been bent, twisted and sculpted through wind and time at an altitude of 11,000ft where year round conditions can be quite brutal. This tree was photographed for National Geographic Magazine in 2021 and is now available as a limited edition print.
