About the Item

MILES ALDRIDGE (*1964, Great Britain) Red Marks #1 2003 Chromogenic print Image 101,6 x 152,4 cm (40 x 60 in.) Sheet 113,6 x 164,4 cm (44 3/4 x 64 3/4 in.) Frame 117,8 x 169,3 x 5 cm (46 3/8 x 66 5/8 x 2 in.) Edition of 3, plus 2 AP; Ed. no. 3/3 (from a sold out edition) A fiercely original photographer, Miles Aldridge (*1964, Great Britain) is best known for the technicolor dream-like worlds he creates and the glamorous, beautiful women who inhabit them. Aldridge creates ultra-cinematic images, drawing inspiration from film directors such as David Lynch and Federico Fellini as well as the psychedelic graphic design of his father, Alan Aldridge. Staged to perfection the stars of Aldridge’s surrealistic stories and technicolour dream-like worlds are glamorous, beautiful women. He captures his subjects in a state of dramatic contemplation, making them more complicated and intriguing than simply beautiful. The women’s immaculate appearance and blank expression leave room for interpretation and, like a mirror for Aldridge’s works at large, hint with a touch of dark humour at the perfected façade of fashion’s glamour and the need for idealised beauty. Moreover, his works are characterized by vivid, fluorescent colours as well as the Hollywood lighting and perfectionist attention to detail. His works are part of renowned museum collections, such as the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the International Center of Photography in New York. – Pop Art, food, cigarette, contemporary, colour

Edition of 9 plus 2 artist's proofs (#1/9) Print only Originally from Excelsior, Minnesota, Erik Madigan Heck (*1983) is one of the youngest and most promising American fashion photographers of the contemporary art scene. In his relatively short career the artist developed a personal way of looking at fashion, as Nathalie Herschdorfer underlines in her essay "Minimal and pure: Erik Madigan Heck fashion photographs". His work is characterized by a clear and distinctive treatment of colours and patterns, which makes it unequivocal. "Heck’s photographs push the concept to new limits, creating imagery that goes beyond traditional fashion photography. Meticulously constructed and enhanced with bright colours, blurring the line between the clothes and the background, his images play with this idea of ‘future’ silhouettes". – Nathalie Herschdorfer In 2017 Heck published his first monograph with Thames & Hudson and Abrams Books titled 'Old Future'. In his 'Old Future' series Madigan Heck explores the intersection of photography and painting as he borrows from and bends the genres of fashion photography, landscape painting and portraiture. Madigan Heck is a regular contributor to The New York Times...
