Anita, Lady Fen - Vintage Fashion Photography

1993-2023

About the Item

On the Road, reimagines classic Richard Heeps artworks presented with full film rebate almost like a blown up contact sheet. Anita, photograph from Richard Heeps autobiographical series, 'A View of the Fens from the Car With Wings', a journey on the roads of his childhood. Unusually for Richard this is a staged photograph, recreating a childhood memory of his mother wearing this well known Marks & Spencer's 1960's polka dot headscarf. It is typical of his portrait style whereby the viewer projects their own person onto 'Anita', for many it evokes nostalgic memories of their mother. This artwork is a limited edition of 25, gloss photographic print only. It will be delivered rolled in a box accompanied by a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. The print is very fragile and it is recommended that it is only handled by a professional framer and that it is dry-mounted for framing. This artwork is available in other sizes and can be requested framed. Be sure to look at Richard Heeps other artworks in our 1stDibs store as they are great paired for interior design projects. “Richard Heeps' seductive, highly-saturated colours and sophisticated pictorial structures demonstrate a true love and empathy for this subject matter – be it cool, descriptive interiors, still life or landscape.” His distinctive style pushes the limits of photography. The collectable and affordable, hand-printed colour photographs combine the best in traditional processing with the latest archival products – from photographic paper to mounting with a 100% cotton museum board. His artwork has been bought by many international collectors. His work often focuses on the duality between human inability to escape institutionalization and human desire for individualism. His interest in contrast is also reflected in his place of residence: Peña currently inhabits the Cerro neighborhood of Cuba which is home to a mostly poor African-Caribbean population, despite having been an enclave of Havana's richest families in the 19th century. René Peña graduated from the Higher pedagogic Institute of Foreign Languages, University of Havana with a specialization in English in 1983.
