Kaori Iwaski works primarily with film photography. She often manipulates images by collaging or using alternative processes while exploring the themes of identity, belonging, and love. The final image becomes something familiar yet compelling.
Taking photographs is a reminder for her to concentrate on the everyday so not to escape reality. ‘Normally you turn to art because you’re bored or you want to see another perspective to freshen your life. It’s the other way around for me – I make art because it helps keep my feet on the ground and live life as it is instead of trying to find something that alters how I see the world.’
Born in Japan, the artist grew up in Canada and Australia, and is currently based between London and Tokyo.
