A lifetime of weekends at the Jersey Shore creates its own reality. There is the rest of the world and there is the beach. The sea can at once lure you with its siren’s charm and then punish you with its pounding surf. The truly addicted will return even when the winds are frigid and the sands covered with snow. John is one of those.
Fishermen know their tides. They can tell time by the sun and find fish by listening to the bird’s callings. It’s never too hot; never too cold. Rod and reel, stick and string, hook and bait. John is one of those.
On a fishing trip with his sons, then ages four and ten, John snapped a few shots of the sea. They were mesmerizing. A camera has been added to the fishing gear ever since. No bells and whistles are required. There is neither background academia nor advanced technology, just point and shoot with attitude. People who live life do not take time to read the instructions. John is one of those.
