Amanda Alic's series "Off Season" portrays abandoned play areas, racetracks, mini-golf courses and resorts. All are immediately strange. Referencing the romanticization of ruins, these images convey exquisite yet eerie locations imbued with memories of pleasure and activity. They reflect the desperate drive to satisfy ourselves by filling our lives with external stimulus.
Amanda Alic was born in Pontiac, MI. She studied photography with Joel Sternfeld at Sarah Lawrence College and received her MFA in Photography and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in 1995. Her photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums in New York, San Francisco, and in Belgium and Israel. Her work has been seen at White Columns, Jessica Murray Projects and the Front Room Gallery. She was a founding member of the Video Room and co-curated the Video Room Video festival in 1998. She sometimes collaborates with husband Ethan Crenson with whom she has a young son named Mac.

Amanda Alic
