These urban panoramas, their format a conscious homage on the movies of Hollywood, create an almost endless realm of imagination for the visualized stories Drebin tells through his pictures. His photographs seem like movie stills, highly detailed and resounding with astonishing coloration, dramatic lighting, and palpable emotion. This very same power can also be found in his mystically epic shots of lonely beaches, rocky coastlines, and city parks.

David Drebin
Love stories and landscapes are at the foundation of David Drebin's panoramas, portraits, and neon sculptures.
Drebin's monograph Love and Other Stories (2007) features solitary women in urban tableaux — high-rise apartments buildings and terraces, freeway overpasses and hotel rooms. Dressed alternately in bikinis, evening gowns, and negligees, the women appear to be in various stages of a love affair. They pout while lying on couches and ascend grand staircases; their legs emerge from doorways and car doors, their concealed upper bodies assumedly engaged in passionate embraces. Drebin's cityscapes present sweeping views of famous locales such as Jerusalem, Paris, and New York and incorporate both built and natural features. In “San Francisco Dusk” (2010), an illuminated grid of buildings reaches toward the misty blue horizon of the Pacific Ocean.

Traditionally, tapestries are a storytelling media as well as décor. This particular work is constructed from commercially printed tapestries acquired from a Chinese supplier during the pandemic. These tell a story of arrested, yet ample, desire. On one side of the piece we see a sunrise from a beach with palm trees. Gently folded over to the right is a second tapestry. In this the artist has chose to expose the desaturated backside which obscures slightly the third tapestry landscape of beach scene around midday.
