Maggie Taylor is a Florida-based artist who creates complex photomontage compositions with a flatbed scanner and Photoshop, a practice she has engaged with since 1995. Taylor draws upon her vast archive of objects, ranging from archival images to plant specimens, and combines scans of these with her own images as a means of creating playful and evocative composites whose jewel-like tonality and classical leanings are made more complicated by the allegorical figures and symbols present within them.
"I work very spontaneously and intuitively, trying to come up with images that have a resonance and a somewhat mysterious narrative content. There is no one meaning for any of the images, rather they exist as a kind of visual riddle or open-ended poem, meant to be both playful and provocative. " – Maggie Taylor
