The inimitable Marina Abramović is a Serbian-born performance-artist whose pioneering work has pushed the limits of the mind and body, and the relationship between artist and audience.
Her acclaimed performances, in which she often uses her body as both the medium and subject, have earned her global recognition and made her one of the world's most admired artists. (We highly recommend the HBO Documentary Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present”)
In 2007 Marina Abramović was one of the artists who participated in the Destricted anthology film project, where a small number of artists created short erotic films. Abramović expanded on her "Balkan Erotic Epic" which combined regional folklore with sexuality and humor. This work is a still from her Destricted project in a unusually low edition.
Few artists (living or dead) have influenced pop culture like Marina Abramović. Whether giving TEDTalks, training Lady Gaga, or collaborating on Givenchy couture shows, Abramović’s magnetism and widespread influence is undeniable.
From September 2023 until January 1, 2024 the Royal Academy in London hosts a major retrospective of Marina Abramović's work.
