Graphic Artwork Exhibition Poster by Georges Braque, Modernist Lithograph 1959

1959

About the Item

"Georges Braque Graphic Works" features a bird in flight against a ruddy background. The poster announces an exhibition of prints and illustrated books held at Galerie Nicolas Rauch in Geneva in 1958. Plate 11 of Les Affiches Originales, printed in 1959 by Fernand Mourlot. Rich, dense lead inks keep this lithograph looking spectacular. Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963) was a French painter that worked confidently in the styles of Impressionism and Fauvism before co-founding Cubism with Pablo Picasso. Works by Braque can be found in the collections of the Tate Gallery, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, among others. "...Fernand Mourlot has been synonymous with the resurgence of lithography – a process which under his influence, attracted the greatest artistic masters of our time. The medium provided a new avenue of expression, a new realm of possibilities for the likes of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Braque, Dubuffet, Léger, and Giacometti to enrich their own work as well as fine art in general. Under the guidance of Mourlot, modern lithography developed a personality and discovered a future." (Mourlot Editions) This artwork is presented in archival rag mat and arrives accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
