About the Item

Personajeoriginal lithograph painting. framed. edition 28/75 ej. painter Antonio Saura was born in Huesca on September 22, 1930. Self-taught, he began painting at age 15 during the convalescence of a long illness. In 1952 he travels to Paris. His work then evolves from initial surrealism to abstract art. In 1957 he became the leading theorist of informalism in Spain with the founding of the El Paso Group together with painters such as Rafael Canogar and Manuel Miralles of the El Paso Group. The artists who formed El Paso began a new chapter in the history of Spanish art: a free avant-garde was born after two decades of creative silence. Among the extensive production of Saura include works such as series Crucifixiones, History of Spain, Crowds, Imaginary portraits, Saurimaquias, etc. His style is defined as monochrome, using only black, or almost monochrome, introducing browns and grays. Fleeing from formal abstraction, Saura became a powerful expressionist, disregarding traditional forms of representation. His works are in the most important museums of the world. He died in Cuenca in 1998.

Karel Appel (born April 25, 1921 in Amsterdam, Netherlands; died May 3, 2006 in Zurich, Switzerland), Karel Appel is one of the founders of the CoBrA avant-garde art movement active from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. His paintings are known for incorporating applications of vibrant and violent colors that often possess a primal, childlike quality. . Appel attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam (1940-1943) and helped found the "Reflex" group, which became known as CoBRA (for Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam), in 1948. He moved to Paris in 1950 and by the 1960s he had settled in New York City; later it was seen in Italy and Switzerland. In part as a reaction against what they perceived as the sterile academicism of the de Stijl movement, CoBRA artists assimilated a variety of more impulsive influences, including folk art, children's art, and Jean's l'art brut ("crude art...
