Ian McNeil Cooke
Gavrinis Earth Goddess, Psychedelic Visionary Metallic Reversible Print, 1/75

1985

About the Item

A dazzling visionary art print with psychedelic patterned imagery in metallic silver, blue, and yellow by Ian McNeil Cooke (British, b.1937), 1985. This detailed limited edition signed print depicts a stylized Earth Goddess inspired by the Neolithic ruins in the cave of Gavrinis on a small island in France. This unique piece is embellished with highly decorative geometric and linear patters, and can be oriented facing up or down (both orientations are shown in photos). Due to its metallic nature, the colors appear slightly different depending on how the light hits it (as shown in photos). Signed and dated "Ian McNeil Cooke 1985" by hand on the upper and lower margins. Titled and numbered "Gavr'inis - Earth Goddess - 1/75" and "Gavr'inis - Goat Island - 1/75" in the upper and lower margins. Please note, the artist has titled, dated, signed, and numbered the print on the upper and lower margins respectively so that this information is legible from either orientation. "This picture may be hung both ways" noted on verso with artist's studio tag. Ian was born London 1937. He attended Kingston School of Art and moved to Cornwall in 1969. Ian studied etching in St Ives with artist Roy Walker, and in 1979 purchased the former Bosullow School House, now Men-an-Tol Studio, where he set up his own printmaking studio.
