About the Item

Original embossed etching, hand-signed in pencil by the artist. Paper sizes: 65.5x50.4 cm ; image sizes: 52.2x42 cm. on deckle edged Arches vellum paper. Marc-Antoine Bissière, known as "Louttre", is the son of the painter Roger Bissière. (1888-1964) He taught at the Ranson Academy, which he attended around 1935, Jean Le Moal, master of his fresco workshop, Alfred Manessier, the sculptor Etienne Martin. Leaving Paris in 1938, Bissière moved to Boissiérette. From 1942 he began to paint, In February 1944 he took part, under the name of Antoine Bissière, in an exhibition at the Galerie de France, preface by Gaston Diehl, with Bissière and his friends, Bertholle, Le Moal, Manessier, Singier, Etienne Martin. From 1945, Louttre works with Bissière for many years. The younger artist adopted the name to distinguish himself from his father and establish his own identity. Louttre B eschewed the pure abstraction of his father for a more figurative abstract style. In 1949, Louttre moved to Paris, second marriage in 1954 with Laure Latapie, daughter of the painter Louis Latapie; he had four children including a son, Martin Bissière, who also became a painter. Galerie Pierre Loeb presents his paintings in 1957 and Jeanne Bucher Gallery in 1959 (preface by Jacques Lassaigne). He exhibited at the May Salon and the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles. In 1960, he began to engrave linoleum and wood in large format size, in complicity with Marcel Fiorini. He is in 1961 winner of the second Biennial of Paris. From 1962, he turned away from non-figuration and returned to live in Boissiérette until 1967, now signing his paintings Louttre.B. From 1965 to 1967 he made a series of sand paintings, a technique to which he will return several times in the following decades. In 1966, he was awarded the fifth Biennale of Engraving in Tokyo and, in 1967, the Triennale of Grenchen, Switzerland. In 1970, the gallery Jeanne Bucher showed his work, preface by Gaëtan Picon, the large format"engravings for the wall" (2 meters by 3 meters) that Louttre.B printed with the help of Fiorini and Paul Decottignies. Louttre.B, presented around one hundred exhibitions of his paintings and engravings in Paris (notably at the Galerie Fabien Boulakia between 1979 and 1987, then at the Galerie Le Troisième Œil) and also in Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. He produced several books and, from 1966, monumental sculptures in cement, mainly for public buildings. Between 1968 and 1973, he collaborated several times with the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres to create a fountain, a wall panel and a clock. Around 1958, Louttre.B made some aquatints but it was from 1960 that he began his unique print-making technique combining woodblock and copper plates to achieve a three dimensional sculptural effect. These marvelous large format embossed engravings are carved into the paper in light relief. He also created sculpture, stained glass windows, and tapestries.
